One of the world’s largest providers of financial services, with assets under administration of over $3.5 trillion, had an enterprise-wide legacy system written in C++ that handled all of their backend functions for the management of their custom, middle-tier 401(k) system portfolio. After a decade of edits, upgrades, and revisions, it had become unwieldy (3.8 million lines of C++ code), complex, fragile, and expensive to support and maintain, and it was no longer cost feasible for the organization to rewrite the entire application.
ProSource was engaged alongside Microsoft and the SDC team to port the legacy tool into a .NET environment. ProSource helped define the requirements and scoped the project in the sketch phase. ProSource also evaluated the integral code components, estimating what an effort of this magnitude would take in terms of time and cost to build it, and architecting how it would ultimately look in a .NET environment. The ProSource deliverable included a detailed roadmap defining how to complete the future application architecture design for this new solution.
